2013 Race Guidelines

VW KaFER CUP 2013 Race Guidelines

Following are guidelines that we will be implementing for the VW KaFER CUP to ensure safety and control the cost of participation.

Safety Requirements:

1.     Helmet (IMPLEMENTED)

2.     Seat Belt (IMPLEMENTED)
·       Minimum 3-point.

3.     Fire Extinguisher (IMPLEMENTED)
·       Capacity. You must install at least a hand-operated fire extinguisher of 2 kg capacity, securely mounted in the car. If it is necessary to fit two smaller extinguishers, these must be of equal capacity of not less than 3 kg. We recommend a semi-automatic (driver-operated) system, discharging into the engine compartment, conforming to the requirements of the FIA's Appendix J. "E" mark. To avoid confusion with the circuit breaker control, you must mark the cable pull or switch of a plumbed-in fire extinguisher by a white or red circle with the letter "E."

FYI: It might be worth mentioning that TRS Retro Race requires total 2kg capacity Fire Extinguisher, for those who intend to run in that series for 2013.

4.     Towing Hooks (IMPLEMENTED)
·       Tow hooks must be provided in front and in the rear of the vehicle for easy extraction from the race track should your vehicle stall for any reason during practice and the race.
·       If participants do not have tow hooks, then they must agree that in the event that they stall their vehicles must be towed from the track the race organizer; and towing personnel and vehicle are not liable for any damage to their vehicle.

5.     Circuit Breaker or Kill Switch (IMPLEMENTED)
·       when your circuit breaker is switched to the "off" position your engine must stop running.
·       Location. The circuit breaker must be easily operable from inside and outside the car. We recommend that the outside control be fitted at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side or within 50cm of that point. In closed cars, you may mount the switch on a perspex rear side window behind the driver's seat.
·       Triangle Mark. You must mark the circuit-breaker control with a red spark in a white-edged blue triangle with a base of at least 120mm.

6.     Roll Cage (IMPLEMENTED)
·       Minimum 4-point for sedan.
·       Minimum 6-point for convertibles, cabriolets and other open top vehicles.

7.     Racing Suit (IMPLEMENTED)
·       Minimum over-alls.
·       Ideally Fireproof material.

8.     Windows must be closable if the window glass has been deleted then a safety net must be present to prevent the driver or any bodily extremities’ from exiting the car in the event of a crash. (IMPLEMENTED)

9.     HANS Device (IMPLEMENTATION TIME FOR CONFIRMATION)
·       The HANS device (also known as a head restraint) (Head and Neck Support device) is a safety item compulsory in many car racing sports. It reduces the likelihood of head and/or neck injuries, such as a basilar skull fracture, in the event of a crash.Minimum 4-point for sedan.

10.  Racing Seats (IMPLEMENTATION TIME FOR CONFIRMATION)
·       A racing seat is a seat contoured to hold one person, distinct from bench seats which are flat platforms designed to seat multiple people. Racing seats are standard in fast cars to keep riders in place when making sharp or quick turns.
